MPH Program Website

The Master of Public Health program at Bethune-Cookman University is a 45-hour credit program focused on providing a graduate-level public health education within a framework of social justice, health equity, and bold leadership. The program is designed to be completed in five sequential semesters (22 months) and is a residential, cohort program. Students matriculate in the fall semester.

The CDU MPH program in Urban Health Disparities continues the University's tradition of addressing the health and education needs of underserved communities. The MPH degree at CDU is a five-semester, minimum 45-credit hour, competency-based curriculum. The MPH program accepts up to 25 students per cohort per year and courses are delivered during the evening hours (6 – 9 p.m.), convenient for working adult students.

Chicago State University's MPH program is a practice-centered curriculum designed to prepare students for the health problems of the 21st century. It focuses on the core functions of public health including:  health status assessments, environmental health quality assurance, behavior change strategies, health disparities, as well as health policy development and research.  Students in the MPH program will conduct research that will increase public awareness of specific health problems.

The MPH Program requires course work in the five core areas of environmental and occupational health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and management, and the behavioral sciences and health education. In addition to receiving a strong foundation in these core disciplines, traditional MPH students will gain additional depth through coursework in a chosen specialized area of public health, as well as through field experience and a public health internship.

The Howard University Master of Public Health (MPH) program is an 18 month program offered through the Howard University Graduate School. The goal of the program is to prepare the next generation of public health professionals with the knowledge, skills, and competencies for leadership, nationally and globally, in public health education, practice, and research with particular emphasis on the elimination of health disparities.

The Master of Public Health Degree Program prepares students at Jackson State University to become competent practitioners in different areas of public health including behavioral health promotion and education, epidemiology, and health policy and management.  The Program provides students with a master’s experience that is multidisciplinary, problem-centered, fully engaged, and integrative of the diverse elements needed in the education of the public health practitioner. The M.P.H. program at Jackson State University serves both full-time and part-time student with full-time students usually completing the curriculum in two and a half years.  Part-time usually requires two additional semesters.

The mission of the Master of Science in Public Health program at Meharry Medical College is to contribute to the public health workforce by increasing representation of individuals from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds through instruction, research and service that is evidence-based and culturally sensitive. The M.S.P.H. and the M.P.H. are equivalent degrees; however, Meharry Medical College emphasizes the "S" in M.S.P.H. because the scientific knowledge and competencies students acquire will allow them to thrive as health professionals upon graduation. This program is a 45 credit-hour course of instruction, plus a field externship.

The Master of Public Health Program at Morehouse School of Medicine provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to advance in a rewarding public health career. The 48-hour program pairs foundational public health theory with evidence-based practice strategies in support of the social mission of MSM. The mission of the MSM M.P.H. Program is to develop, through graduate education, public health leaders who are fluent in community-focused public health practice, particularly in underserved communities.

The Master of Public Health program is comprised of a total of 48 graduate credit hours inclusive of a Public Health practicum and capstone. The curriculum for the generalist MPH degree prepares students to be public health professionals who draw on the knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines to define and assess urban public health problems. The MPH curriculum consists of foundation courses in each of the five core public health domains, additional required research, practice courses and electives.

The Department of Public Health Education supports health promotion and disease prevention in global communities through student engagement, cutting-edge health disparities research and collaborative community partnerships. The department seeks to promote the health and well-being of communities through a combination of departmental course offerings, faculty research, and academic service learning. The Public Health Education BS prepares students for careers as health educators in a variety of settings (e.g., public health departments, voluntary health agencies, healthcare organizations, corporate worksites, and community-based organizations).

The Bachelor's of Science in Public Health Sciences requires a minimum of 52 credit hours in order to attain the degree. The mission of Public Health Science is to prepare students for a job market and graduate/professional schools in which they can pursue careers in public health.  The education will allow them to cultivate an atmosphere of wellness, while disseminating knowledge of healthy lifestyles. The engagement of the students with campus, individuals, communities, and general population will infuse and instill the concept of lifelong learning and advancement of healthcare, while improving the quality of life of the general population.

The Graduate of Public Health Program offers both the Master of Public Health and the Master of Science in Public Health degrees.  The DGPH offers opportunities to students who desire to pursue a traditional public health career and/or enhance their translational research capacity as they matriculate into the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.  Graduates have so far received public health training through research application, thesis preparation, and a wide exposure to applied practical experiences (APEx).  All eligible applicants are welcome to apply.

The Master of Public Health in Health Equity is a 45-credit hour program that includes MPH core foundational competency courses and a range of other courses to choose from related to determinants of health equity. The program will be offered in an on-campus format with courses being offered in late afternoon and evening to accommodate work schedules. The curriculum will be closely structured to reflect the core of public health, with additional courses that will be geared towards health equities.
