Fort Valley State University:
Founded over 100 years ago, Fort Valley State University embraces a history that weaves together African American culture, a commitment to personal and intellectual growth, and a deep sense of community. Our status as a land-grant university has led to remarkable innovations in agriculture and related fields.
Our acclaimed Biology Department and Chemistry Department help Fort Valley State University send more students of African descent to medical school and dental school than any other state school in Georgia. And our comprehensive liberal arts curriculum continues to set new standards of excellence. Fort Valley enjoys an enrollment of 2,500 students. Our more than 70 student organizations and activities range from a thriving sorority and fraternity system to conference-leading athletic teams, from honor societies to student government.
Research
Faculty research focuses on the cultural, regional, and ethnic linkages between the high morbidity rates due to heart disease, cancer, and strokes and adverse environmental factors such as livestock rearing, farming practices, food handling, industrial contaminants and the like.

Degree Program in Environmental Health was developed in response to the nation's call-to-action for improved health opportunities for all Americans with a specific focus on state and local needs.

Curriculum
The M.P.H. Degree Program in Environmental Health was developed in response to the nation’s call-to-action for improved health opportunities for all Americans. The M.P.H. Program offers a course of study that prepares students to identify problems and propose solutions to a variety of environmental conditions that affect the health of minority, rural, and disadvantaged populations at disproportionate rates. Graduates of the Program will be capable of pursuing further study in environmental health or related fields, conducting research in this discipline, managing community health agencies, and/or leadership designed to educate and empower citizens to form partnerships in the interest of improving the overall health of their communities.
Faculty
The Program has 23 part time faculty. Other departments with joint appointments include:
Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Geology, Veterinary Sciences, Dentistry, Economics and Mathematics.
Alumni
Graduates of the M.P.H. degree program will be capable of pursuing further study in environmental health or related fields, conducting research in the discipline, managing community health agencies, and/or providing community-based leadership designed to educate and empower citizens to form partnerships in the interest of improving the overall health of their communities.
