· On August 6, 2009, Dr. Patricia Rodney was appointed Assistant Dean for Public Health Education at Morehouse School of Medicine

· In June 2009, Dr. Cynthia M. Harris became Co-Chair of CAAPHP

· In 2009, Morgan State University completed its CEPH site-visit, in anticipation of its re-accreditation

· In July 2009, Meharry received its CEPH accreditation for 5 years July 2009-June 2014

· In 2008, CAAPHP received an STD training and education grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

· In 2008, Howard University withdrew from the Consortium after discontinuing its public health program

· In 2008, Jackson State University received its 5-yr accreditation as a public health program from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)

Allan S. Noonan
MD, MPH

 

 

Dr. Noonan is the Dean of the School of Public Health and Policy at Morgan State University.

He has contributed to the establishment of a school of public health at this major historically black university. As an accredited program, Morgan State has graduated students at the masters and doctoral level. The current goal is to expand the scope of training and to become an accredited school of public health.

Prior to coming to Morgan, Dr. Noonan served as a senior advisor in the Office of the Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service coordinating the production of all Surgeon Generals’ reports and calls to action. He has been a public health professional for more than thirty years, and has worked as a developer and implementor of public health programs at the local, state, national, and international level.

He has worked in epidemiology, maternal and child health, public health administration, and the training of health professionals. He was the Secretary of Health for the State of Pennsylvania; the Regional Health Administrator and Assistant Surgeon General responsible for public health service programs in six midwestern states; and the Director of the Department of Health in the District of Columbia. Throughout his career, Dr. Noonan has played key roles in efforts to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes.
