· In 2008, CAAPHP received an STD training and education grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

· In 2008, Jackson State University received its 5-yr accreditation as a public health program from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)

Mario J. Azevedo
PhD, MPH

 

 

 

Professor Mario J. Azevedo has a PhD in history from Duke University, and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He earned his MA and BA degrees in History from American University and Catholic University, respectively.

Professor Azevedo is Chair, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Interim Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi. In Fall 2009, he served as the Acting Dean of the College of Public Service, home to the School of Health Sciences. Professor Azevedo has published a number of articles in various journals, including Journal of Social Science and Medicine and the International Journal of Diabetes and Challenge.

Professor’s Azevedo’s latest research interests have focused on global health, HIV, and diabetes. He has published over 10 articles in book chapters, journal articles, and encyclopedia essays.
